Sea Level Rise between Responsibility and Protection
The rise of sea levels across the globe is one of the most dangerous consequences of manmade climate change. Not only does it threaten to reduce the inhabitable and useable land mass of our planet, but it may also lead to States losing their entire territory to the oceans.
Sea level rise confronts the international community and humanitarian actors alike with a unique set of issues from international responsibility for the prevention of sea level rise over questions regarding statehood and submerged territories to the protection of affected populations.
The Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) is proud to host an interdisciplinary expert discussion on these issues, with contributions from:
Prof. Dr. Volker Röben, University of Dundee
Prof. Dr. Patrícia Galvão Teles, International Law Commission
Sanne Hogesteeger M.A., Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre
