UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights at 10 - A Conversation with John Ruggie
On June 16th, 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Council endorsed the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, setting out a framework for State duties and business responsibilities in preventing and addressing adverse business-related human rights impacts. John Ruggie’s principles and their three pillars – ‘Protect, Respect and Remedy’ – have proven indispensable yet again, not least due to the pandemic, and countries are slowly starting to implement elements of the Guiding Principles in their national legislations, e.g. the recent draft of a supply chain law (Lieferkettengesetz) in Germany.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of ‘his’ Guiding Principles, John Ruggie will be interviewed by Pierre Thielbörger. Together with Robert McCorquodale and Anita Ramasastry they will discuss the past, present and future of the Guiding Principles.
